You cannot impose certain things on them, but it is on you how you impart the teachings that can benefit them at the end. An ideal adult learning program is a very interactive one. Ask your students to participate in the discussion. Only discussion can uncover big ideas. As these students are big ones, they might already possess the traits of responsibility and understanding. You need to be a catalyst to motivate them into the positive path. Rather than boring theoretical classes, concentrate on the practical lessons.
One of most advantageous and on the other hand one of the most disadvantageous factor of adult learning is the age of the learners. It is advantageous as they can easily apprehend many things, which they might have already faced or applied in their lives. Disadvantageous because many times you cannot force someone not following the course properly.

Give importance to what they are saying and take their suggestions all the time. Instead of imposing anything on the learners, try to evaluate the reasons for your statement. You will make a good adult learning teacher when you become more a friend and less an instructor.
